An extensive extended cruise through Australia is being halted following the death of an elderly woman who was stranded by the ship on a isolated island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

A major rescue mission found her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, together with police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer said that passengers and crew on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the individuals via chartered flights".

Officials also issued an revised statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" prohibiting any additional guests from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its arrival.

The vessel initially left Cairns on 24 October, and was merely two days into the journey at the moment of the elderly woman's passing. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the Head verified that the organization was "working closely with officials to support their investigation".

He mentioned that the company was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the relatives.

The ship caters for up to a hundred twenty passengers with 46 personnel, according to official data. It was specifically designed to reach distant locations of the nation's coast and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to transport individuals on day excursions.
